Choosing the right person to seek help and advice from can sometimes be a confusing task. Many people claim to be experts in nutrition yet have very limited knowledge and offer no protection to the public.

Dietitians are very often referred to as the ‘Gold Standard’ when it comes to nutrition and food professionals.

Registered Dietitians (RDs) are the only qualified health professionals that assess, diagnose and treat dietary and nutritional problems at an individual and wider public health level. They work with both healthy and sick people. Uniquely, dietitians use the most up-to-date public health and scientific research on food, health and disease which they translate into practical guidance to enable people to make appropriate lifestyle and food choices.  Dietitians are also the only nutrition professionals to be regulated by law, and are governed by an ethical code to ensure that they always work to the highest standard.

The Trust a Dietitian campaign aims to highlight the importance of choosing a Dietitian and the very big differences between Dietitians, nutritionists, nutritional therapists and, so-called, diet ‘experts’.

Celebrating people who changed their lives with the help of Dietitian Beth.

I have helped many people attain weight loss, achieve their health and fitness goals, move forward from eating disorders and severe health conditions. Following are a few of many success stories.

I approached Beth as I was hoping to run a 3.15 marathon and obtain a good for age time . I had been running  seriously for 9 years and had never managed achieve the time despite training hard and following marathon plans. Mainly I felt because my diet was poor especially my tendency to comfort eat at work.

Beth was very supportive and gave straightforward easy to follow advice , the plan she gave me was appropriate for me as both a runner and as part of my ordinary life.

Following Beth’s plan lead to me setting 4 personal bests including taking 11 minutes and 14 seconds off my PB at the  Hull Marathon in September 2018 running 3 hours 13 minutes and 46 seconds. Most importantly I have managed to follow the plan avoiding huge weight gain even when not training.

I really cannot believe the difference! After 5 months and 3 weeks I've lost 6 stone. It's been the best thing I have ever done. Dietitian Beth is just the best!! I cannot recommend her highly enough, she is just amazing. Her knowledge and approach is incredible. This is not just a diet but a lifestyle change. I am so glad I made the decision to start to lose weight when I did. Next target is the Great North Run in September 2019.

In her work, Beth combines her expert knowledge and passion for nutrition with real life applicability: the meal plan she created for me (to lose weight for my wedding) took into account my routine, workload, food preferences and a decent amount of wiggle room for treats! I lost two stone in the run up to my wedding. She is clearly passionate about what she does and that passion and her expertise inspired me to achieve my goals for weight loss and well-being.

When I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and high cholesterol, I knew I had to change my eating habits and way of life.  I worked in an eating disorders hospital where Beth was Dietitian, so I approached her for much needed help.  With Beth’s dietary advice for lowering cholesterol, i.e., breakfast,  midday and evening meal suggestions as well as snack ideas, I have managed to lower my cholesterol and get my life back on track.  I now feel much healthier, I have lost my ‘spare tyre’ and generally feel well and I know this would not have been achieved without Beth’s advice.

My goal in 2014 was to do my first marathon and to try and do it under 3 hours. I knew I would have to train like never before -which I did- but more importantly I had to look at my nutrition and this is where Beth came in. She wrote me a full nutrition plan for 18 weeks which was easy to follow. It helped me to lose fat not muscle which is very important and also I felt I had more energy on my runs. I would not hesitate in using Beth again. My time was 2 hr 59 min 31 sec I can only say if it wasn't for Beth I wouldn't have ran a sub 3 hour marathon.

Our daughter has autism and we found that her bowel movements seemed very unpredictable.

She seemed to be either very constipated or her stools were very loose. We raised this with every pediatrician and health professional we spoke to during our normal appointments, but none of them were aware of any link between autism and digestive problems.

We had a short consultation with Beth and she made some simple recommendations. The effect was immediate and amazing. Our daughter is now toileting herself and we can easily regulate the consistency of her bowel movements, while still allowing her a wide and varied diet.

We thought it would be years until we reached this point, so we are very grateful to Beth for giving our daughter a normal life and allowing her to have a happy time at school.

Thank you for all the help that you have given my daughter. She was in such a low place 7 months ago, and I really didn’t know how best to help her to go forward. I am just so grateful that you were recommended to us, as from the moment you had your first consultation, we seemed to move in the right direction, and I know it hasn’t been an easy journey, but it’s certainly one that she couldn’t have embarked on without your help. So - a huge thank you. I would never have believed back then that she would at this moment be enjoying her life so much, or indeed have the confidence and self belief to do go travelling. I know that there may be hiccups and issues ahead but I feel you have given her the tools and self knowledge to deal with this, and I am so proud of her for the changes she

has made.

After my initial consultation with Beth I knew I was going to succeed. She just made sense! Over the previous few months I had seen my weight creep up but couldn't seem to do anything about it. Joining well known weight loss classes several times over, nothing could get me in the right head space. Then I met Beth. My initial goal was to lose a stone but I knew that I had to see results quickly to ensure I carried on; and I did. The stone has gone, I feel great and more importantly I now know how to eat healthily which has set me up for life. Hopefully I will even lose a little bit more! My next goal is to start training for my first full marathon and I'm already counting on Beth to get me there. Thanks Beth x

I was fast approaching my 50th birthday, had a 7 month old baby and a 5 year old and wanted to be 'fab and fit' for my birthday.  A friend had used Beth's services with great results so I thought I'd give her a try.  I was not disappointed.

Beth came to speak to me and we discussed my eating habits and lifestyle.  I always struggled mid afternoon with dipping into the biscuit tin and could eat chocolate all day. I thought I was quite healthy exercising 4 times a week and not eating many carbs, but my weight was stuck.

Beth told me what I was doing wrong and came up with plan which worked for me, taking into account where I shopped, convenience and the hectic lifestyle I was leading.

I couldn't believe that after the first 2 weeks i had lost 6lbs, had not felt hungry and was even managing to meet my chocolate craving just by choosing alternative snacks.

Over the 8 week period in which I saw Beth I lost 1st, 3lb.  The eating plan has now become a way of life and I am more conscious of what I am eating, and eating correctly.  I still have treats, and have recently enjoyed a family holiday, eating what I wanted.  But I have to say that although I ate what I wanted I didn't want all of the rubbish I had previously eaten and I wasn't craving it either.

For me this is a long term healthy eating plan, which I will continue to follow.  Thank you Beth for all of your help.
